Bee treatment for established colonies

Bees nesting in your walls or roof?

Bees are important pollinators and not every bee swarm needs pest control treatment. A swarm temporarily resting in a tree is quite different from a colony that has established itself inside the walls or roof of a building.

Once bees settle into a wall cavity, roof space or other difficult-to-reach area, they can be hard to access and may create concerns for people using the property. Ruben assesses the location and circumstances before recommending a suitable approach.

How Ruben can help

Hexagon Pest Control provides professional treatment for established bee colonies in buildings where treatment is appropriate. Depending on access, the colony's location and the risks involved, this may involve targeted application of a registered pest control product in accordance with its label directions.

Ruben does not provide live hive relocation. If you've found a temporary swarm and want it relocated alive, a local beekeeper or specialist swarm collection service is the right contact.

Common signs of a colony in a building

  • Bees repeatedly flying in and out of the same gap in brickwork, eaves or roofing
  • Bee activity around wall cavities, sheds or other enclosed structures
  • Bees gathering near doorways or other frequently used areas
  • Persistent activity at the same location over several days

What to do before Ruben attends

  • Keep children and pets away from the activity
  • Don't block hive entrances or disturb the colony
  • Don't attempt to smoke out or spray bees yourself
  • If someone experiences symptoms of a severe allergic reaction, call 000 immediately

What happens after treatment?

Where a colony is established inside a building, treatment may not remove honeycomb or stored honey. These materials and the entry points sometimes need further attention to reduce the risk of other pests, staining or future bee activity. Ruben can explain what was accessible and whether other building work may be needed.
